Cookie Policy
Last updated: 2026. This page explains what cookies (and similar technologies) GOTHAM GRADES currently uses, and how you can manage them.
What's a cookie, and what's local storage?
A cookie is a small piece of data a website can ask your browser to store. Local storage is a similar browser feature — data stored on your device, readable only by the site that saved it — that this site actually relies on more than traditional cookies. We're covering both here for full transparency.
What GOTHAM GRADES stores today
- Your pinned places (local storage) — saved on your device only when you tap "Pin" on a place. See our Privacy Policy for details.
- Your cookie preference (local storage) — a small note of whether you clicked "Accept" or "Necessary only" on the cookie banner, so we don't ask again every visit.
That's it. We do not currently set advertising cookies, analytics cookies, or any cookie used to track you across visits or across other websites.
Cookies from third-party services
Loading the map, search results, and site fonts pulls in a small number of outside services (NYC Open Data, OpenStreetMap Nominatim, CARTO map tiles, and Google Fonts). These are generally technical requests rather than tracking cookies, but each provider operates under its own policy, which we don't control. See the "Third-party services" section of our Privacy Policy for the full list.
If advertising cookies are added later
We may add advertising (such as Google AdSense) to help support the cost of running this site. If that happens, the ad provider may set its own cookies to personalize ads and measure how they perform, under its own privacy and cookie practices — for Google, that's covered by Google's ad policy. The cookie banner on this site, and the choice you make on it, is built to apply to that scenario too: choosing "Necessary only" is intended to keep advertising/personalization cookies off, even after ads are introduced.
How to manage your preference
Use the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer of any page to reopen the choice at any time. You can also clear cookies and local storage entirely through your browser's own settings — note that doing so will also remove any places you've pinned.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page if what we store changes — most notably, if and when advertising is introduced.
